Doesn't need box spring but I might get one to raise him a little higher. Gave 4 stars because one screw was welded closed so the slab underneath isn't screwed down on one side. Easy fix if you have one around the house, I didn't. ..but eeh.Otherwise, really easy to put together. I did it alone as I do all builds in my house. Supermom, that's me! This bed doesn't disappoint. Let's see how it is in durability.*Update*The seller has responded and has agreed to send me a replacement bed. So costomer service definitely bumps up thisrating.I bought this for my 2 yr old in Sep. 2020 its now Feb. 2021 and it has already started falling apart. My daughter does nothing but sleep in this bed so I dont see why in just 5 months with minimal use this should be happening. The screws are pulling out of the holes and the foot board has started to split apart because its just layers of particle board and not real wood. When I first assembled it one of the supports for the mattress was also split but I was not going to dissasemble the bed just for that. I have reach out to customer service and will update when I get a response.EDIT: Exceptional Customer Care & Communication! We still love the bed and the heavier adult in the family sits on the floor when reading.Original review: Bed carries up to 250 lbs not 330 as the description said! :( We picked this one for the price and higher weight limit so a heavy adult can read with the kids. We were looking for a transitional bed for our preschooler to use after the toddler bed and before a loft when she is older. This fits the bill. Easy instructions to follow but a lot of screwing everything together. It took a little over an hour.I've had these beds for over a year and they are still holding up. No issues.
